1st day of Evangelism

For the afternoon, we headed up "Tower Mountain" to walk and talk amongst the community there. The hill isn't too far from the base, so most of the Jamaicans we talked to knew of YWAM. I sat and chatted with one lady up the road who was holding her 2 month old grandchild. I also met the mother of the child who arrived a few minutes later from the market. I guessed she was maybe 16 years old. I've learned this is very common in Jamaica - about 85% of children in Jamaica are born out of wedlock. There are even some communities where the children don't even know what marriage is because it isn't practiced. Heart breaking, isn't it?!

I really enjoyed this week's teachings. Our speaker was Faith Linton, a 79 year old dear lady from Jamaica. I loved her! She spoke on:
  • Redemption - using the book of Ruth
  • "Who am I? The Meaning of Persons"
  • We as moral beings
  • Made for Relationship
  • The Meaning of Marriage
  • The 12 steps to Pair Bonding - How Man and Woman Become One

This week was so eye opening. For the talk on Redemption, we went in detail, verse by verse through the book of Ruth. I had never done that much in study before. It was amazing. She brought the Hebrew culture to life.

And for the talks on relationships, we went through Genesis 1,2, and 3. I have read those passages several times, and I have never realized the complexity of it until now. I'm learning so much. When first starting this DTS, I prayed that the Lord would give me a heart and desire to really soak in all the teachings that I may grow in my understanding of the word. And He is really blessing that prayer. :)

This weekend, I have a lot to catch up on so I'm just going to stay around the base. I hope you guys in the states have a great presidents day weekend!
