Today for evangelism, we went to Herbert Morrison High School to talk with the students involved in ISCF - Inter School Christian Fellowship. It's like the Christian Club on the campus.
Every third Saturday of the month, we go into the downtown to hand out pack lunches.
This was the first shelter we went to. After a good amount of people arrive, we started off with some singing and then shared a short devotional. After that, we passed out the lunches and just sat with the people and talked with them. It was great. I got to pray for most of the men and women I sat with. In the photo below, the girl on right is Cherise. It took her a while to start talking to me but after a little bit, she opened up. I even went outside with her to her sidewalk cart where she and other people sell fruit and vegetables and bought some corn on the cob.
If I remember correctly, this man's name was Peter. He had wanted me to pray for protection over him becaue of all the people he said wanted to attack him. I longed to know more of each person's story. It seemed like each person I saw come in the building all had so many scars on their arms, face, or head, or they had deformities of some sort. It was heartbreaking. To me, I think the scars not only symbolized physical pain, but probably emotional and spiritual pain as well.
This is Jennifer. She was at the other shelter we went to. It's actually a night shelter where they can sleep and the people who work there try to help these guys become responsible and get back on their feet again. Jennifer and I talked for awhile. She knew and loved Jesus. She was telling me how the Lord had healed her 6 years ago from a problem in her head.
Today, we got the day off because it's a public holiday - Ash Wednesday. I don't ever remember any significance to this day back home, but that's okay because we got to sleep in and have a fun team bonding sports day. We played fun games including musical chairs, basketball, soccer, etc and then we had a barbeque afterwards. This was the girls side cheering for whooping the boys at the game.
The girls tired from soccer.
Last Sunday, most of the girls and I just decided to have some fun and do a photo shoot around the campus. There are some you'll get a kick at. :)
